Alicante has seen since the most reputable sailors to confront the Volvo Ocean Race, the race back to the world par excellence.

Alicante hosted in October 2011 the start of the Volvo Ocean Race, the most prestigious race back to the world of sailing. The first stage went from Alicante on October / November 2011, but since October 29 races were held prior In port race off the coast of Alicante.
